2025Video Call is an AI-powered feature that helps language learners practice real-life conversations. I led the design strategy that increased feature adoption from 26% to 33% in one quarter. I'm currently designing a new bilingual, guided call experience to make speaking practice more approachable for beginners.
2024In 2024, we launched Intermediate English, our most advanced English course yet. However, retention suffered as many English learners tend to underestimate their proficiency and drop off when they find the content too easy. I led design efforts across three key areas: improving placement accuracy for new and existing learners, deepening engagement through new features and exercise types, and partnering with Marketing to increase awareness in India—now our largest English market. These initiatives grew Intermediate English to 1.95M daily active users by the end of the quarter, a 52% increase.
2023I led the design of Side Quests—character-themed challenges that run alongside the main learning path—from concept to launch. Side Quests add variety and delight to the learning experience, deepen engagement with Duolingo's characters, and introduce new ways to spend gems. I also defined a future vision that builds on stronger narrative elements to motivate learners to complete quests and progress through their courses.
2021-23
I co-designed Duolingo's first family plan, leading the end-to-end invite and management experience. I later partnered with Marketing to create the official landing page, making it easier for learners to understand benefits, compare pricing, and start a plan. These efforts helped grow Family Plan into one of Duolingo's most popular subscription tiers.
