Guided Call

2026

Guided Call is a beginner-friendly speaking experience featuring our tutor bear, Falstaff. He helps learners work up to a full conversation with encouragement and support along the way. I led design from concept through launch and subsequent improvements for learning and delight, increasing words spoken by 22% and growing Guided Call DAUs by 35% in H1 2026.

Video Call

2025

Video Call is an AI-powered feature that helps learners practice real-life conversations anytime, anywhere with our characters. It’s the best way to improve your conversational skills on Duolingo, but it’s also more challenging than our usual lessons, so learners often skip calls. I led our strategy and roadmap to grow feature adoption from 26%33% in one quarter.

Intermediate English

2024

Intermediate English launched in 2024 as Duolingo's most advanced English course. However, the course had lower retention as many English learners underestimate their proficiency, and then drop off when content is too easy. I led design across three workstreams—improving placement accuracy, adding new features and exercise types to deepen engagement, and partnering with Marketing on campaigns in India, our largest English market. The work grew Intermediate English DAUs to 1.95M by the end of the quarter, a 52% increase.

Side Quests

2023

Side Quests are optional, gamified challenges on the side of the main learning path that allow learners to review content from the unit and earn stars along the way. I led this project from concept through launch that made $10k/day.

Family Plan

2021, 2023

I co-designed Duolingo's first ever Family Plan, now one of our most popular subscriptions. My focus was the post-subscription experience: enabling primary members to invite others and manage the plan, and guiding secondary members to successfully join. I also designed the plan’s landing page website, making it easier for people to learn more about its benefits and start a plan.
